- Hyperhidrosis of the Armpits (axillary)
BOTOX® is FDA-approved for excessive underarm sweating that is not adequately managed with topical agents. BOTOX® treatment helps control this condition by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands don’t receive chemical signals, the excessive sweating stops.

Common Questions & Answers about BOTOX® for Hyperhidrosis:
What is Hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive perspiration. Every day, our body perspires to maintain constant internal body temperature. Perspiration is balanced by what we call the sympathetic nervous system. This system controls millions of sweat glands in the body. Located within the chest cavity are the branches of the sympathetic chain that control sweating.
Hyperhidrosis can be sudden or episodic or continuous. It often occurs in the armpits (axillary hyperhidrosis), which can be treated here at AVIE!
How long does the treatment last?
According to studies, the average BOTOX® treatment for excessive armpit sweating lasts for approximately six to seven months.
When will I notice the difference, and how long will it last?
You should notice a significant reduction in underarm sweating within four weeks of your first treatment.* There is a possibility that some sweat glands may be missed, and you may continue to experience some sweating from the untreated areas. If you do not see a significant reduction in sweating, you should contact us for a follow-up consultation.
Are the injections painful?
The injection needle is very small, which normally avoids discomfort. The pinching sensation experienced lasts only a short time, and you will return to your usual activities without any painful after effects.*
What happens as treatment begins to wear off?
After approximately six months, the effects of BOTOX® begin to wear off and increased sweating will gradually reappear. Before this point, you should discuss continuing treatment with our medical director.
Is there any downtime?
No, however this may vary from person to person. Following treatment, patients usually return to their jobs and normal activities immediately. It is recommended, however, that you avoid exercise, heavy lifting and massaging the injected area injected for one day.
How much does BOTOX® for Hyperhidrosis Cost?
Every person’s situation is unique and will require a consultation. Please contact us to schedule a complimentary consultation.
